Buttons opened on 3rd October 2005. It caters for up to fifteen children on a 1:3 staffing ratio. Buttons have three rooms which enable staff to meet the varying needs of the children. For example, the needs of young babies vary greatly from older Buttons who are using sand, water, paint etc and enjoying other sensory experiences. They also have an outdoor play area including an area with a safety surface. Babies routines mirror as far as possible those established at home (e.g. feeds, sleeps).
Activities
With such young children a good deal of time is given to physical needs. Staff also work hard to provide for emotional and other needs by working with children on a range of activities based on the Birth To 3 Matters Guidance. This includes lots of things you would do at home e.g. singing, rhymes, looking at books, playing with musical instruments etc as well as sensory experiences e.g. playing with jelly or shaving foam. There are lots of cuddles and affection throughout the day helping staff and children ‘bond’.
Feedback
Parents are kept up to date with their child’s day through a Daily Feedback Book.
Staff also keep notes of each child’s development in a ‘profile’. This records his/her development ‘milestones’ etc. It also helps staff to plan for with the next stage of development. Photographs are included. Parents can see these at any time.
Management
Buttons have a Leader who has responsibility for the ‘day to day’ running of Buttons Rooms. She is answerable to the Under 3s Manager who is line managed by the Headteacher.
