Wrappers opened on the 3rd of September 2001. It is a day care facility based in Crigglestone Nursery School. It comes under the management of The Nursery School. The staffing ratio is 1:13 during nursery sessions and 1:8 at other times. During nursery sessions Wrappers integrate with nursery, but have different group/team activities. This ensures that the children don’t repeat group activities. Wrappers opens from 7.45 am to 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday. It opens all year, with the exception of Bank Holidays.
The term ‘Wraparound Care’ is relatively new. The aim is to ‘wraparound’ existing arrangements, providing care and education for a length of time which meets the child’s/family’s needs. Children can attend Crigglestone Nursery for their usual free 2½ hour nursery session and Wrappers for the rest of the day. (Children who are three but have not yet started Nursery can also attend, but are not eligible for the free session).
Wrappers is open to all children within the appropriate age group. Children who attend other schools/nurseries can often attend, but parents need to arrange their own transport.
Wrappers combines high quality care with the educational standards of the nursery..
Activities
High quality, well-planned educational activities are offered, based on the Foundation Stage Curriculum. During nursery session Wrappers children integrate with nursery. Outside nursery sessions Wrappers children have a choice of rooms. This helps to ensure variety, especially necessary for children who attend all day. The need for periods of mental and physical activity interspersed with more relaxed periods is also fully recognised. The differing attendance patterns of children is taken into account to ensure that their needs are catered for.
Management
Anne Wilford is The Headteacher of Crigglestone Nursery School. She is also the ‘Nominated Person’ for Day Care. During school holidays Marie Burke (Under 3s Manager) takes management responsibility for Wraparound.
Our aim is to offer the same high quality in our Day Care Facilities as in the nursery. The emphasis is on providing high quality experiences within an attractive environment. Emphasis will be on staff spending time with children. To ensure that this is possible, we employ a full time cook, full time caretaker, part time cleaner, part time admin and other support staff.
We offer Wraparound as a service to the community. We do not need to make a profit, therefore any profit made will be re-invested to enhance the quality of the service and keep our costs as low as possible.
Ofsted
Wrappers was last inspected in December 2005. This was an Integrated Care and Education Inspection. Care was found to be ‘good’ and education ‘outstanding’. Please click on the Ofsted link to see the full report.
